Project Overview

Hardyal’s Derby kitchen already had plenty of character, with classic cabinetry, a dresser-style run and a brick feature around the hob. Joe’s Doors helped to refresh the space by replacing the dated laminate worktops with bright new quartz, lifting the whole room without disturbing the existing layout. The result is a lighter, cleaner and more contemporary feel that still suits the traditional style of the home.

What We Changed

We removed the tired wood-effect laminate and installed new Carrara Gold quartz overlays across all worktop areas, including the dresser and window run. The soft white surface with subtle marble-style veining reflects more daylight around the kitchen and pairs neatly with the pale cabinetry and brick surround. The new quartz surfaces were fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install. Under-cabinet lighting along the dresser and corner run now highlights the fresh worktops and gives practical, even task lighting.

The Result

The new Carrara Gold surfaces give this kitchen a calmer, brighter appearance, particularly around the large window and the dresser run. The white sink now sits seamlessly within the quartz, creating a clean, modern focal point while the cabinetry and brickwork retain their original charm. Hardyal has gained a more refined, easy-care workspace that feels updated but still very much in keeping with the character of the property.
