Project Overview

Sarah-jane wanted her Thatcham kitchen to feel lighter and more up to date without starting from scratch. By retaining the existing layout but refreshing the visible surfaces, Joe’s Doors has created a calm, modern space that makes better use of the natural light. The new finishes give the room a softer, more refined look while remaining practical for everyday cooking.

What We Changed

The original kitchen had pale Shaker-style doors paired with dark laminate worktops that absorbed light and made the room feel heavier. Joe’s Doors replaced the door fronts with new Welsford doors in Stone Grey Matt, bringing in a smoother, more contemporary Shaker profile with a warm neutral tone that works well with the existing flooring and tiles.

The darker laminate worktops were then upgraded using Calacatta Canyon quartz overlays, fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install. The pale surface and subtle marble-style veining now run around the U-shaped layout, including the new hob area, tying the whole kitchen together.

The Result

The kitchen now feels noticeably brighter, with the Stone Grey Matt doors adding gentle contrast against the white tiles and the light worktops reflecting daylight back into the room. The consistent run of Calacatta Canyon surfaces gives a more seamless, high-end appearance compared with the previous darker laminate. Overall, Sarah-jane has gained a modern, welcoming kitchen that looks freshly refitted while still using the existing cabinets and layout.
