Project Overview

Helen wanted to freshen up her traditional, well-loved kitchen while keeping its warm, homely character. By replacing the original timber worktops with new Calacatta Retro quartz overlays, we were able to brighten the whole room and introduce a more refined, marble-look finish. The space now feels lighter and more up to date, yet still very much in keeping with the rustic brickwork and tiled splashbacks.

What We Changed

Joe’s Doors removed Helen’s existing wood worktop surfaces and installed Calacatta Retro quartz overlays across the full kitchen run, including around the gas hob, ovens and the brick alcove feature. The pale base colour and soft grey veining help to bounce light around the room, particularly by the window and white sink area, giving a cleaner, fresher look against the cream cabinetry and warm-toned tiles. The overlays were fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install.

The Result

The new worktops have transformed the feel of the kitchen without altering its layout or cabinetry. The Calacatta Retro surface lightens the brick alcove and hob area, softens the contrast with the tiled splashbacks and creates a more continuous, elegant run of workspace. Helen now has a brighter, easier-to-clean surface that respects the character of her home while giving it a subtle contemporary lift.
