Project Overview

Patricia wanted to bring more light into her Lancashire kitchen without changing the layout she was happy with. By updating the dark central worktop and the surrounding surfaces to a brighter Carrara Marble quartz, we were able to modernise the space and create a calmer, more open feel. The new surfaces complement the existing warm tiled splashback and pale cabinetry, giving the kitchen a refreshed but familiar character.

What We Changed

The original island worktop was a dark, heavily speckled surface that visually broke up the room and drew attention away from the rest of the kitchen. We replaced this and the lighter surrounding counters with Carrara Marble quartz overlays, bringing a consistent finish across the whole space. The clean white background with soft grey veining lifts the central peninsula, brightens the sink run by the window and adds a light contrast next to the range cooker. The quartz overlays were fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install.

The Result

The kitchen now feels noticeably brighter, especially around the central peninsula where light reflects softly off the Carrara Marble surface. The new worktops tie the room together, sitting neatly against the warm-toned tiles and pale doors, and give the whole space a more up-to-date look without losing its homely feel. Patricia keeps the layout and storage she liked, but enjoys a fresher, easier-to-maintain surface throughout.
