Project Overview

Mathew’s long, galley-style kitchen in Chatham had a sleek but dark, glossy finish that absorbed light and made the space feel enclosed. Joe’s Doors introduced a softer palette with new doors and quartz overlays to lift the room and create a calmer, brighter feel. By updating the visible surfaces only, the existing layout and cabinets were retained, keeping the project efficient and cost-effective.

What We Changed

The old dark gloss doors were replaced with classic Kelstone-style doors in Matt Kashmir, giving the kitchen a warm, neutral tone with subtle detailing on every cabinet. These were made to measure for the existing units, so Mathew could keep his current layout while gaining a completely different look.

We then installed Vitton quartz overlay worktops along both runs, including around the hob and sink. The light marble-effect surface with gentle veining continues up into a matching splashback, which streamlines the walls and reflects more light down the length of the kitchen. The quartz overlays were fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install.

Finishing touches such as brushed brass-style handles complete the upgrade, adding a subtle contrast against the Matt Kashmir doors and tying the whole scheme together.

The Result

The kitchen now feels noticeably lighter and more inviting, with the creamy Matt Kashmir doors softening the long corridor view and the marble-effect Vitton quartz brightening the work areas. The continuous splashbacks give a clean, modern line behind the hob and sink, while the new handles introduce a discreet touch of warmth. Mathew has gained a fresh, contemporary kitchen that works better with the rest of the home, all achieved without the need for a full refit.
