Project Overview

Mark’s Nottingham kitchen had a traditional feel, but the dark worktops and older cabinet style made the space look heavy. Joe’s Doors refreshed the room with darker, more contemporary cabinetry and lighter worktops that brighten both the sink area and the run by the back door. The new finishes sit comfortably with the existing tiled splashback and timber floor, giving the kitchen an updated but sympathetic look.

What We Changed

We replaced the old pale cabinet fronts with new Shutter And Groove doors in Legno Graphite, adding subtle vertical detailing in a rich, modern tone. This instantly simplified the lines of the kitchen and created a neater run of units around the window and along the wall to the door. To lift the space, we installed a bright Carrara Marble quartz overlay worktop, fitted directly over existing worktops — no messy rip‑outs — for less disruption and a quicker install. The light surface with gentle veining helps reflect light back into the room and provides a crisp contrast to the darker doors and existing brassware.

The Result

The new Legno Graphite doors give the kitchen a calmer, more streamlined appearance, while the Carrara Marble surfaces brighten the previously darker worktop areas. Around the sink, the lighter worktop helps highlight the ceramic basin and brass tap, and along the run by the back door the slimmer, uninterrupted work surface makes the space feel tidier and more contemporary. Overall, the room now feels more modern and cohesive without losing the character of the original tiles and timber floor.
